My flatmate was playing the Xbox 360 version the other day and I thought it looked awesome - graphics are some of the best I've seen and the AI (especially the way crowds react to events) was pretty darn cool! I wouldn't mind giving it a go myself but the only free time I have I seem to spend on here No

I could become tempted. I see it has been released as a standalone product now. Not big on online games, cos of the snotty 12yr olds that spend 80hrs a week playing them and kill me within 30 secs of joining a game, but I was playing Day of Defeat for a bit...got not bad at that...to the point where I was good enough to get pi**ed off at the lack of teamwork and support from other players. Okay...I just looked at some gameplay vids of TF2... I like it, I want it! Going to get it...sometime.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome. I got it with The Orange Box, which is actually bloody good value for money. I love the whole Halflife franchise of games, and it was only about $90 for 6 games!! Smile

Do you have to have the original HL2 game to play the episodes that are released separately? Or are they playable standalone? If so...I think I'll make a small purchase.

I nearly bought a PC just so I could buy the Orange Box... but I think I'll upgrade my Mac to one of the new Intel ones so I can have the best of both worlds! They reckon Windows runs at full steam alongside MacOs... it is mighty tempting...

I remember playing the original HL back in the day, it is a mission of mine to start at the beginning again with the revamped Source version then follow on with HL2 and the expansions... might take a while though Rolling Eyes

I had a look at Team Fortress 2 today, it does look pretty sweet... another reason to upgrade... I'm sure my girlfriend will understand... Suspect

Any of you guys played Project reality? Its a mod for Bf2. I've never played a game that relies on teamwork as much as this game. Anyone who likes playing Bf2 should give it a try. I'm sure you would love it.

I've never tryed Aix2. Looks like it has heaps of content in it. I tryed FH2, but it just didn't give me the excitment that Project Reality does. Everyone just goes off by them selfs and doesnt work as a team which I hate in games.

has anyone here played the PC version of GTA 4? I'm considering buying it but apparently its horrible compared to console versions (i dont have a ps3 or 360 so i would prefer pc version)

    people have said things like
    - to get it running on a high end PC with 20 FPS you have to turn the graphics right down so it looks more like GTA VC in gfx quality...
    - some of the missions arent available and the city is smaller
    - takes -a-g-e-s- to install because of all the copy protection stuff

i've asked everywhere and it seems no one has played the pc version... so if no one replies to this, i guess thats a no too. PC Gaming - Page 2 Icon_smile

Thats the one with the russian characters right? If so, yes I've installed and played it. Tried it originally on a low spec machine and it was hilarious! With graphics turned right down I could see about 3-5 metres in front o fthe car before the graphics turned off!!!

Anyway later upgraded and had another crack at it and it worked fine. Don't remember it being too slow or anything, but the Rockstar community thing (a bit like Games for Windows Live or an evil version of Steam) was annoying.

In the end though, it ran fine with a decent spec'd machine. I just got bored of it!!

If you are unsure about the performance of your computer running GTA, go to this website and it will tell you how well the game will run on your computer.

    thats a handy site...

unfortunately my PC nearly died trying to install the Java component thing that it used, so it came as no surprise that i didn't meet the minimum specs for GTA4, although everything passed except the graphics card which only passed on the fact that it could handle 3D... lol

upgrading my video card might end up costing more than the xbox 360 you mentioned earlier...

You might be able to get a cheap graphics card off trademe.
    I used this website: http://www.pricespy.co.nz/search.php?sc=Console_24

Cheapest you can get a xbox 360 with everything you need to start playing is $349NZD.
You can get GTA:4 from $79.99NZD + free shipping. http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/Xbox-360/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/1515493/
So you would be looking around $430 just to play GTA on xbox.

For a new graphics card you would be looking atleast this :http://www.elive.co.nz/gigabyte-rx385512h-radeon-3850-p1210.php

    Which will cost you $220.
Just looking at some forums about GTA:4, they say the game heavly on you CPU (Computer processing unit(?)).
Also the game cost around $100 so thats $320 just for you computer.

    Yes I am bored.

lol it was last time i checked, they may have found a way to make it smaller by now... although steam may have struck a deal with Rockstar to make the setup process easier with their download. I've downloaded quite a few things off steam and pretty much the second it finishes downloading, you can play it - no entering cdkeys or waiting for it to install files...

I highly doubt it will be smaller, It may even be larger now, they might of released patches for the game. Steam is a great idea and does work well.

Some guy has already invited a way that you can play games from websites without downloading them. For example Gta 4. Saw it on youtube once.

there was a system called Onlive where you do something with your pc / tv and you can play games streamed from a server, as in it streams the video to you kinda like youtube except u can use the arrow keys on your keyboard... PC Gaming - Page 2 Icon_eek

it was met with heavy critisism especially at the fact the servers had to be less than 200kms away to be effective, and it would require a massively powerful server to be able to run modern games for several thousands of users...
