Hello my name is.....

Well it seems to have got awfully quiet here lately, and so I'd thought I'd try and spark some more activity by starting an Introduction Thread.
I'm new here, and so I thought I'd introduce myself.
My names Kayte, I'm 25 and live in Hamilton. I am trying to join the Police, trying being the key word... I am cleared for testing and booked a testing day in March 2010, which they have just cancelled, along with testing days for the next 18 months... yay... So just going to try and keep fit, so if there is any recruiting in Hamilton that want to keep up their running...
I am Volunteer Ambulance Officer with St John, and part of my works Emergency Response Team.

Are they still holding monthly rehersals?

Yup they are still holding the monthly rehersals, just no actual testing days next year. The last actual testing day is this month and they have no more planned after that.

Is that just in Hamilton or everywhere?

What my recruiting officer said was that it was everywhere in NZ., kind of except South Auckland, but they are only taking people for South Auckland if they stay there long term (5+ years) and they already have enough people on the waiting list for South Auckland to fill over 2 intakes. She said that they are halting all recruitment for 18 months for the whole country. So if you are not on the waiting list, nothing more is going to be happening for a while.
Apparently not only do they have heaps of people in the process and on the waiting list, they are over staffed. Apparently in Hamilton they are 22 cops overstaffed, so that means 22 have to leave before they will start recruiting... I don't know the numbers for the rest of NZ but it's the same story everywhere, so I've been told.
I've heard they have done this before and what happened later on is they couldn't fill all the places at college. Swings and roundabouts, hopefully it will just happen sooner rather than later.

Yup unfortunatey, as if it wasn't long enough already!!!
I'm applying for a Corrections Officer job, just something that is a bit closer to the field I want to be in (police) as opposed to calibrating equipment in a lab!!! Unfortunately there are no Comms centres close to where I live

if the goverment was a bit more pro police they would increase budgets to allow more police, most areas are over staffed, welly something like 34 central 12 etc etc.
If recessions lifts alot more you will find more people will leave as more job opportunties will open up outside of police

Yeah and we're overstaffed here in Christchurch central too...we regularly put out on the street an icar and a sgt.

Yeah KAL thats exactly what the problem is at the moment... Trust me to pick the exact wrong time to try and join...
Yeah they say everywhere is 'overstaffed'. It's just budget cuts from the government... Soon things will change when the crime rate goes up because of 'overstaffing'
