    Wellington PAT Route

Post by comms32 on Tue Apr 28, 2009 2:12 am

People keep asking about this so here it is! The red line on the map shows the 600m route which you run four times.

Start adjacent to the 'Water Whirler' sculpture by Frank Kitts Park. Run along the waterfront, over the lagoon bridge, past the big old crane on a boat, left over the small bridge and along the concrete area with Te Papa to your right. As you go past the wooden seating area by the duck pond you'll see a row of lamp posts. The first one has a rubbish bin attached to it; this is the turning point. Go around it and run all the way back to where you started, when you get to the 'Water Whirler' do a U-turn and do the whole lot again! Easy! Razz

It doesn't look that far because it isn't. If you were jogging it's a warm up! But the speed you need to run at makes this hurt like hell! The wind will add a fair chunk of time to your run. As will the countless tourists getting in your way on the foot bridges. Don't be afraid to yell at people to get out of the way. Wink

Well I live in the Bay, so Aotea Lagoon is just across the harbour for me Smile however, Im only 16 and will probably just slow you down. I really do need to start training though, I want to get the test in by the end of the year.

Ahhh, TBH dude you'd be better off to go and get some "life experiences" first, I'm certainly not dissing you but your chances of getting in at 17 are not overly high. (But by no means let that put you off from joining at all!)

Are you working at the moment? Flatting or living at home?

Living at home, working through college, have been working for NZ Post for the last 2 1/2 years. Done heaps of backstage work at concerts. In the process of getting my firearms license and working toward my glider pilots license. I know I dont have the greatest chance, but Im gonna try! They have let young people in before. I dont expect to get in straight away, but its worth a shot. Plus I have done two shifts already with Porirua Police, and can get the Snr Sgt for section 4 to drop me a good word. He did say in an email after the shift that he had good feedback from the cops I went with.

i'll be training in welly. probably along the waterfront.

i'm going for a PAT rehearsal in a mo - which should be fun looking at the weather.

moved to welly last night from wanaka - what a journey that was over the strait! just getting life sorted re: house/flat and job etc...anyone know of any job centres?

got my actual PAT booked for june 10th, but thinking i'll have to postpone as fitness has taken its toll with the moving process etc....

hopefully gonna get some good advice from the pt guys!

let me know if you wanna train!

Does anyone know the distance around the lagoon across the road from the college? I run around it regularly, but I haven't got a clue how far it is or how many times you actually run around this during college. Any help would be appreciated!! Very Happy Yours in fitness etc.....

    Hey The Cod.
You run the Lagoon three and a 1/3 times.
Each lap works out to be about 0.83 of a KM.
So the cheeky PT guys make you run a 2.8 km run in the same time.

Have you been given a start date yet?

I think you'll find there are small distance markers next to the footpath. I think, it's been a while since I've run around the lagoon.
