Regardless, typing skills, english and spelling skills and an ability to communicate well verbally will be a big help.

Geography, computer literacy, and a good attitude work well too. And pants.

That said, there are people in the intake who make you wonder how they got the job/passed the tests etc.

    Hey Azza,

Haven't posted on here in ages but I had the pleasure of doing 6 years in Central Comms before going sworn.
Geography is a big one but typing and listening skills are also a big component.
Pants are a very good idea just not leather chaps!!! haha

    Yep, probably about 85-90%

And to keep them happy, they keep creating new positions (for sworn and non-sworn) like S/Sgt (and equivalent).

Word is that the Shift Inspectors are going to be opened up to non-sworn as well, (it's all about career paths) by making them Authorised Officers, so they can control pursuits and make other command decisions currently only allowed by Commissioned Officers.

Mind you, some of the decisions made can't be any worse, and to be fair, many non-sworn holding equivalent positions have been sworn members and have more than a few clues. At least in AKL - can't speak for the other two centres!
