Anyone in Whakatane Empty Anyone in Whakatane

Post by nebnab Tue Jun 21, 2011 12:01 am

    Hi All

Well I have finally been called up to join wing 271, providing I pass my PAT next week. Unfortunately its not my first choose for posting which was Tauranga, it is Whakatane. I have wanted this for a long time so I am not one to turn down this opportunity. I have a young Family with 3 kids and my wife is a full time mum.

What I would like to know is there any one here from Whakatane that can help with my transition, maybe have me stay at their house when I am on my station leave, and possibly stay on when I graduate until I get my family over. Or know of anyone that might be able to help.

Moving is going to be a bit hard but I am sure we can do it.

Well, that's awesome news bro! Yeah it's not Tauranga, but Whakatane isn't like, Te Kaha, or, Christchurch. But it's not far away, and it is an awesome place.

Just go hard in that PCT bro - go till you taste blood, then go harder!! Let me know. In the meantime - woohoo!

Hi nebnab, if you do pass the PAT and make it into 271, let me know and I'll see if I can suggest a few things re: Whakatane Smile

1st up congrats there Nebnad, you have joined a brotherhood with bonds that literally reach around the world. You will soon be a 'copper', a title you can wear with pride.
    On other issues
Unfortunately its not my first choose for posting which was Tauranga, it is Whakatane..."
It surprises me that NZ recruit for where they need members, we recruit and send you where you are needed, if you don't like it..well .. go flip burgers.
Do your time wherever you were sent and then move on. Several years ago I did a Nth Island tour and found that the eastern BOP was a lovely part of the world, would seem quite a desirable posting to me.

    Musashi

Thanks, I completely agree that if I want to work in this Job I have to be willing to take what is offered. And in NZ I guess choosing your posting is just part of the process. I suppose it would be nice to be in a familiar area where I live, but now that I have accepted the posting and spoken to some Cops in the area I am going to I can't wait. And you are right Whakatane is a lovely place to be in NZ.
I am grateful that I am finally able to get into college and start my career.

I can put you in touch with a cop that works in Whakatane that I used to work with years ago...about 17 years to be exact.

And you are right Whakatane is a lovely place to be in NZ.

I had an Old Austin A70 Hampshire which I had kept in my Dad's shed near Christchurch and several years ago took the little woman and my son back for a holiday. We did a Nth Island Tour which included the East Coast- Gisbourne, Tolaga,Ruatoria,Te Araroa and the rest of the BOP before heading up to NthLand. I loved the Bay of Plenty and look forward to one day again repeating that trip. Hopefully my son will don tanks and help me grab a few of those big pack-horse crays from the waters up that way.

    cheers

Thank you to everyone that has offered to help with the Transition to Whakatane. I have found a place to stay for my Station leave, which is awesome and gives me great peace of mind as I get closer to college. I am still nervous about the move over, as it will be so close to Christmas, hopefully we find the right home and can get there easily. If anyone has a Big truck, let me know.
