I borrowed Little Big Planet off a mate as I have always wanted to try it but have not been able to get a hold of it.

The first hour was spent downloading mandatory updates. I walk in the door all stoked ready to pop in the game and get into it - as that's what games consoles should be all about - and I have a longer load than a PC... Thats pretty average.

Surely if you don't connect it to the internet it won't know that it has to download updats before hand, and will aloow you to get straight into playing it...

Hmm good thinking... But it's wireless and would be a hassle turning it off and on. Plus the point of the game is to be online and play other player's levels.

As for what it is... I'm still working it out. It's ok, you can play through a story (there is a story at a push) or build and play levels built by other people. Im still trying to figure out how to design levels. It's all side scrolling.

    Further to PS3 ranting...:

I bought a PS3 250gb slim in Chch in late May. Played it hard out for a couple weeks (had leave, and sent wife to Mongolia) and then I got burgled, and lost it.

No worries, that's what insurance is for (pity about all 2wks worth of saved games I had to play again to catch up to where I was...), so I got a new machine after a few weeks. It doesn't get a lot of use, but I break it out every now and then and spend a couple of hours blowing shit up.

But the last couple of days, it's been crashing/freezing. It's done it twice in about 2 hrs now just tonight. No error msgs, no warnings, just a freeze, then a blank screen. So I have to force a restart. I think it's only happened when I tried to go online with Red Dead Redemption (wasn't paying enough attention to what I was doing when it crashed).

It sits on a low coffee table, vents are well clear but it feels quite warm to the touch. But as I say, it hasn't been getting thrashed for hours on end.

Anyone else got a slim? Having problems? Should I be worried? Google (and co) tells me that there have been a few problems with 250gb slims along these lines, but all that info comes from o/seas websites. Hence I am looking to see if any NZers have had problems like this...

    Anyone? scratch

if its a fault with lots of them then theres possibly a firmware update you can get that will help prevent it, otherwise a simple, common and often overlooked issue is dirt/scratches on the disc. a slim ps3 will definitely get warmer than the larger ones as it has less heatsinks etc, completely unrelated but when i play GTA:IV on my laptop it slowly gets up to 100deg and it pumps out warmer air than most heaters lol

edit - i didnt completely pay attention to what you wrote until now, can you do other things online on it or does it always freeze when trying to access the internet?
